In a slum where the descendants of criminals are forced to live, the people beyond its borders look down on them with disdain, calling them “tribal people.” Among them is Rudo, an orphan boy raised by his foster father, Legto. With his incredible physical abilities, Rudo scrapes by in this harsh world. But one day, he’s falsely accused of a crime and thrown into the terrifying “Abyss”—a place so feared that even the slum’s residents avoid it.
Rudo and Legto struggle to survive in the shadow of a wealthy town, trying to coexist with its privileged residents. But Rudo can’t stand the upper class’s wasteful ways. Ignoring warnings, he often digs through the town’s trash, salvaging anything useful before it’s dumped into the Abyss—a massive pit where all unwanted things, even people, are discarded. His own father met that fate, cast into the Abyss after being accused of murder.
