Shoyo Hinata, a junior high school student, discovers a sudden passion for volleyball after watching a national tournament on TV. Despite his short stature, he’s inspired by the tournament’s star player, known as the “Little Giant,” and decides to follow in his footsteps. Determined, Hinata starts practicing alone and eventually forms a volleyball club. By his final year of middle school, three members join, including two former rivals who are convinced by Hinata’s enthusiasm to compete in the championship.
However, their first tournament ends in a crushing defeat when they face the top-ranked team, led by the “King of the Court,” Tobio Kageyama. Despite the loss, Hinata refuses to give up and vows to one day surpass Kageyama.
Years later, Hinata enrolls at Karasuno High School, eager to join their volleyball team—only to find his sworn rival, Kageyama, standing among his new teammates.
