Kenichi Shirahama, a timid 16-year-old high school student who has endured years of bullying, becomes the protagonist of this action-packed Japanese manga series. Created by Syun Matsuena, the story ran in Shonen Sunday magazine from 2002 to 2014. Everything changes when Kenichi meets transfer student Miu Furinji, whose martial arts skills inspire him to seek strength. Following her to the Ryozanpaku dojo, he encounters six extraordinary masters under the leadership of Miu’s grandfather, Hayato Furinji.
After training with Miu, Kenichi gains enough confidence to defeat a top member of his school’s karate club, making him a target for delinquents. His admiration for Miu grows, and he fully commits to training at Ryozanpaku, not just for self-defense but to become a true martial artist. His life soon becomes a mix of rigorous training under the masters and constant battles against Ragnarok, a gang of bullies determined to either recruit or crush him.
When Ragnarok falls apart, a new threat emerges—Yomi, a group of elite fighters trained by Yami, Ryozanpaku’s dark counterpart. While Kenichi’s mentors follow the philosophy of protecting life (Katsujinken), Yami’s disciples embrace ruthless tactics, including killing (Satsujinken). As the masters confront Yami’s forces, Kenichi, Miu, and their allies take on Yomi’s members.
The final confrontation revolves around stopping Yami’s ultimate plan—”The Eternal Sunset,” a scheme to plunge the world into chaos. After an intense battle, their leader is defeated, and both Yami and Yomi disband. Years later, Kenichi continues his training at Ryozanpaku, eventually becoming a famous author and, it is hinted, a martial arts master married to Miu. The story blends action, growth, and romance, making it a compelling journey of perseverance and self-discovery.
