Otoyomegatari takes place in a small Central Asian village near the Caspian Sea in the early 1800s. The story follows Amir, a young woman who travels from a faraway mountain village to marry Karluk, a boy eight years younger than her. The narrative explores their daily lives and the traditions of their tight-knit community. But when Amir’s family suddenly insists on bringing her back home, the peaceful village is thrown into turmoil.
The manga won the 7th Manga Taishou Award in 2014 and the intergénérations prize at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2012.
