In the year 305 of the Alcian calendar, the world is ruled by a system called “numbers.” Every person is marked at birth with a “Count,” which can represent anything—like the distance someone has walked or how many people have complimented their cooking. If a person’s Count ever falls to zero, they are condemned to the Abyss. After Hina’s mother’s Count reached zero, her final wish was for Hina to find the legendary figure known as the Flying Ace.
