UQ Holder! is a manga series created by Ken Akamatsu. The story is set in the year 2086, a decade after magic has been revealed to the world. The protagonist, Tota Konoe, is a young boy who dreams of leaving his small village to explore the towering structure in the capital city. However, his guardian Yukihime and his teacher insist he must first accomplish an impossible task before he can go.
When a bounty hunter targeting Yukihime fatally wounds Tota, she saves his life by turning him into a vampire, revealing her true nature. This marks the beginning of Tota’s journey in a world where immortals exist, and the lines between advanced technology and magic have blurred.
Tota, a cheerful and optimistic 14-year-old, was raised by Yukihime after losing his parents. His transformation into an immortal binds him to her, and he later wields a unique sword capable of adjusting its weight dramatically with a simple dial. Additionally, he possesses the rare ability of “Magia Erebea,” allowing him to absorb magic into his body and fuse it with his spirit.
With his resemblance to his great-grandfather, the legendary wizard Negi Springfield from Negima!, and his connection to the Konoe family—hinted through similarities to Konoka Konoe—Tota’s lineage plays a key role in his adventures. His grandfather, Nagi Springfield, also shares striking similarities with him, further tying his destiny to the world of magic and immortals.
